A Little bit about me.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist working with adults and adolescents both in person and online. I also work directly with parents of younger children both in person and online. I am a member of the Irish Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists, and my work is carried out in accordance with the IACP code of ethics.
The approach I take is an evidence based integrative approach, guided by the needs of the individual, meaning the client steers the course of the therapy. I have experience of working with a variety of theoretical modalities including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis, Solution focused and Mindfulness.
I work on a one to one basis with adolescents , helping them navigate the challenges and difficulties that often arise during this transitional period. Conflict can arise when a young person is trying to develop a sense of autonomy and parents often struggle with supporting them. We can work together to support their journey and help them find their way, one step at a time.
I work with parents of younger children to help them improve communication and strengthen relationships within the family. We identify your strengths as a parent and build self confidence thus empowering you to better understand and succesfully navigate behavioral issues or challenges your child may be experiencing.
I have an interest in neurodiversity and have worked with a number of neurodiverse young people. I also worked as a volunteer counsellor in the Rainbow Club, Cork supporting parents of autistic children. I am familiar with the challenges experienced for both the child, their parents and their siblings following a diagnosis and I provide a safe, non-judgemental space for parents to explore their feelings. We will work together to develop tools to help deal with the ongoing challenges and work towards acceptance of a diagnosis.
Women’s mental health and helping women navigate difficult periods of their lives from puberty to menopause is something I feel passionate about. I have been on a personal journey in this regard having experienced fertility issues in my twenties and early menopause at the age of 38. This experience has afforded me a deep understanding of the implications of both infertility and early menopause and the impact on family life and relationships.
